Weather, climate and society 2.0

Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB) and Romanian Association of Applied Meteorology and Education (ARMAE) jointly organize a new event on the topic “Weather, climate and society”.
Dr. Darren Ghent (University of Leicester, UK) will deliver a 30-min lecture about “Measuring the surface temperatures of the earth from space”. Darren Ghent is a senior research scientist in the Earth Observation System group at the University of Leicester and staff member of the UK National Centre for Earth Observation. He has been Project Scientist on the European Space Agency (ESA) project DUE GlobTemperature and Principal Investigator on the ESA TIRI-SIM Project.
Dr. Sorin Cheval (Air Force Academy “Henri Coandă” & National Meteorological Adminstration & University of Bucharest) will overview the “Urban climate and climate change challenges in SE Europe”. Dr. Sorin Cheval convenes the Urban Climate and Biometeorology section of the European Geophysical Union, and his main expertise related to urban climate refers to monitoring techniques, assessment of urban heat island, and climate change impacts.
This event will take place Tuesday 21 August 2018, 5:30 p.m., on the premises of the Platform for Research on Systemic Biology and Ecology (91-95 Splaiul Independenței, Bucharest).
